All Saints Day — Solemn Mass: Thursday, November 1 at 6:30 PM

Forms for commemorations of the departed are also available on the same table in the back of Church. To cut down on costs and mailings, please feel free to take a form, list the names of your departed loved ones, and return your list to the church (return envelopes also provided on table) by Sunday October 28, so that the Memorials for inclusion in the All Saints Day Mass can be compiled in time.

Parish Directories Are Now Available

The latest parish directory (as of 10 business days ago!) will be available on a special table in the back of the Church. To help defray printing costs in our deficit budget, a free-will offering for the directories is greatly appreciated.

A Letter From John Compton

My Dear Friends at All Saints,

I’m writing to you from Washington, DC where I’m embarking upon my new campaign.

I wanted to tell you all how very much I enjoyed working with you this summer on the Cornerstone Campaign. Not only did we have a top-notch steering committee, but the responses you gave to those working on the campaign were truly inspiring. I recently enjoyed reading Fr. Steve’s newsletter article about being a “priestly skeptic.” But I assure you, he wasn’t alone in his fears or doubts. In fact, after 14 years, I still enter each and every project as probably the most scared person there. What helped me at some point was hearing the saying “Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the ability to control it.” Well, you see that once we control our fears, great things can happen.

I look forward to returning to see you and the works you’ve accomplished as a result of the campaign. Now, as you know, the work isn’t over. There is still the issue of making those pledge payments over the next three to four years. And there may be times when you struggle with financial decisions. As one whose own church went through three capital campaigns, this is how I approached the issue… First off, you knew from looking at me that physical labor was not my strong suit. Ask me to work on something and I might break out into a rash! However, I’d gladly pay someone else to hammer shingles on the roof, fix the doors and patch the windows. So, it helped me to think of my payments as a swing of the hammer or the rumbling of heavy equipment to the project—with someone else doing all the work.

In any event, please continue to focus on restoring your beautiful, historical church – both in your annual giving and in maintaining your campaign pledge support. Consider making All Saints “your baby” for the next three years. Give it your best shot and see if you aren’t pleased and rewarded by the results. It doesn’t hurt either that prospective members are usually drawn to churches where there are exciting developments going on.

Again, I can’t thank you enough for giving our approach the opportunity to work. And I can’t thank Fr. Steve and the rest of you enough for being so hospitable. I will hold you warmly in my thoughts and prayers as I hope you will hold me. Until I see you again, I wish you peace, good health and the Lord’s blessings.

Sincerely,
John Compton

November 11, 2007 — The Very Rev. Robert Giannini is Guest Speaker

On Sunday, November 11, the retired Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, the Very Rev. Robert Giannini will be offering his perspective on "the Anglican muddle" afflicting the Church at the present time. He will also present interesting perspectives on Bishop Akinola of Nigeria.

Dean Giannini was born in New York City and moved to Florida as a child. He received a B.A. from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee; an M. Div. from the General Theological Seminary, New York; and a Ph.D. from St. Andrews University, Scotland. He has served in parishes in Sarasota and Miami; as Episcopal Chaplain at the University of South Florida; Dean of the Episcopal Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Florida; Dean of the School of Theology at the University of the South; and for fifteen years as Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis.

He has taught at St. Andrews University, The University of South Florida, The University of the South, The General Theological Seminary; The University of Indianapolis; and Christian Theological Seminary. He is the author of both scholarly and popular articles and reviews.

He has served on the Board of Trustees of The General Theological Seminary and as its chair for five years; on the Board of Trustees for the Anglican Observer to the United Nations; the General Board of Examining Chaplains for the Episcopal Church; and the Episcopal Church’s Commission on Ecumenical Relations. He also serves on the Board of the Fine Arts Society of Indianapolis.

He is married to Jo Ann, and has two daughters, both of whom live in Indianapolis. He enjoys baseball but cannot in any way approach the sublime expertise of Bobby Fong.

October 14 — Damien Center Day

All Saints continues to support the Damien Center and its efforts. Toilet paper and other personal items are in high demand. Please remember the Damien Center when you are shopping.

Forum: The Works and Services of the Damien Center
Ed Alexander—Associate Executive Director, Damien Center

The Education and Outreach Committees of All Saints invites everyone to an Adult Education Forum on Sunday, October 14th from 11:30am – 12:30pm in the Parish Hall. Associate Executive Director, Ed Alexander, of the Damien Center will present an informative program on the work and services of the Damien Center. All Saints has a long association with the Damien Center. Let’s make this a special donation day and send Ed back to the Center with bags filled with paper products and food!

The Adult Education Forum also precedes the AIDS Walk in downtown Indianapolis. All Saints will have a team of walkers at that event and invites everyone to attend this Forum and sign up to donate, walk, or do both at www.indianaaidswalk.org. Our All Saints team can be accessed on the right side of their main web page. (Under the teams link, click 'More' to see the full list.)

Everyone can participate on October 14th by bringing a donation of food or paper products to the Forum, by walking or biking at the AIDS walk, by cheering on the walkers and bike riders, or by donating to the event through the All Saints Team link on the webpage. Always pray for those individuals living with this illness, their loved ones and those who provide needed services to this community. Let’s make October 14th Damien Day at All Saints!
